Committee Changes

There have been a number of changes to the KFC committee since the end of our 2005-6 season: Alex Greenwood resigned as Festival Director in the summer, D David Miller in September and Nick Graham has decided to move further away and won't be able to carry on with KFC. All three will be missed and we are extremely grateful for all their time and effort over the years.

On the plus side, we welcome Ann Martin who has agreed to become Festival Co-ordinator. Ann is knowledgeable about business and PR, and she has already impressed through her energy and enthusiasm with tackling the task of getting a film festival up and running. But…we remain a little short-handed. If you feel you have some spare time and any relevant skill or expertise, we’d be delighted to hear. It's impossible to give a job description for committee members, but anything from help with distributing our brochure to writing about and introducing films or to organising publicity or social events would be music to our ears.

New Season

We really hope that you like the look of the films on the programme, and that we'll see you at the Alhambra as often as your busy lives permit. Starting with The Squid and the Whale on Sunday, preceded by a short which was equally successful at Sundance: Family Portrait, which won the Grand Jury Prize for Best Short Film.

So please join us for a glass of wine or juice at 4.15 on Sunday if you can, and we'll look forward to seeing a lot of familiar faces and a few new ones, no doubt.

Extreme Film: Research Needs Your Help

A team at Aberystwyth University is researching audience responses to some of the most explicit and controversial depictions of sexual violence ever to reach British screens - and they need your help. The study, which is being funded by the BBFC, aims to get beyond the press debates, and find out what real viewers think and feel about five films: À Ma Soeur, Baise-Moi, Irreversible, Ichi the Killer, and House on the Edge of the Park.

Autumn 2006 Programme

The new programme is now available. There are too many films to talk in detail about them all - you'll have heard about Ken Loach's The Wind That Shakes the Barley, Almodovar's Volver and Gavin Hood's Tsotsi already, but we're sure that you'll find the quality of the rest just as impressive, whether from Eastern Europe, the USA or Japan. What a fine collection to look forward to!
