The Spring season starts on Sunday with OSS-117: Cairo, Nest of Spies. The OTT title will give you a flavour of the spoof nature of the movie, and if you want to read more, the notes are available on the film's page here on the website.
There's also a chance to get together for a glass of wine (or OJ) at 4.15pm before the film. No mind-stretching this time - just the chance to renew acquaintance and introduce yourself to that interesting-looking character who often sits two or three seats away from you... Or just relax and ponder Peter Bradshaw's on-screen musings.
A reminder too, that if you like the look of the spring 2009 programme, you can save yourself a few pounds by buying a spring pass (still only £28) and see all 14 films without any more to pay. The maths shouldn't be difficult!

Gomorrah
It appears very unlikely now that the print of Gomorrah will arrive for tomorrow evening.
It's extremely irritating, but beyond our control: we can but apologise. In place of Gomorrah we'll be putting on a free screening of WALL-E, and will hope to put matters right by arranging a screening of Gomorrah in the New Year.
As for WALL-E, it might seem a surprising choice, but we're merely replacing Sight & Sound's 4th best film of 2008 with their 3rd best! Despite it being animation, most of the serious critics have taken warmly to the film, and in fact it scores 96% on Rotten Tomatoes. So, if you haven't seen it, do come along and have a free treat.
It's just possible that some obscure carrier will still turn up with Gomorrah, in which case we'll screen it, but that seems increasingly unlikely...

Film Society Of The Year Awards 2008
The well attended BFFS Film Society of the Year Awards ceremony took place on Saturday 27th September amid the splendour of Cutlers Hall in Sheffield.
President, Derek Malcolm, and special guest Jan Dunn - director of Gypo and Ruby Blue - gave witty speeches extolling the virtues of the BFFS and British cinema respectively, setting an excellent tone for the proceedings.
Under the auspices of new Chair Julieanne Crothers-Gibson, Keswick Film Club scooped Commendations for Best Film Programming and Best Marketing & Publicity, a distinction for Programme Notes and the top prize for Best Website.
The Club was pipped for The Engholm Prize for Film Society of the Year by Louth Film Club.

New Season Starts On Sunday
We hope most of you will be able to make it to Mongol on Sunday - not only because it's an exciting film to launch the new season, but it's always a great pleasure to see members again after their sunny summer break.
We're starting with our customary free wine (or juice) at 4.15pm, but this year there's more: Ian and Elspeth have been busy devising some film-based fun for you - no, not a test, but a chance to exercise your opinions and prejudices in amusing and interesting ways - so we'd be pleased if plenty of members turn up in good time to partake (and no, you don't have to say a word if you're feeling shy - just 'post-it').
